[16:40 Wednesday 23 January 2008] |
Go to Wikipedia and look up your birth day (excluding the year). List three neat facts, two births and one death in your journal, including the year.
August 11th
3114 BC - On this date in the proleptic Gregorian calendar begins our current era in the Maya Long Count Calendar. Awesome. So basically the current era began on my birthday, pretty sweet.
1972 - Vietnam War: The last United States ground combat unit depart South Vietnam. Also pretty awesome. What a retarded war.
1984 - United States President Ronald Reagan, during a voice check for a radio broadcast remarks "My fellow Americans, I'm pleased to tell you today that I've signed legislation that will outlaw Russia forever. We begin bombing in five minutes". Despite how much Reagan sucks, this is amazing.
(Other notable things: Mall of America in Minnesota opens, Alan Greenspan becomes the head of Fed, a total solar eclipse, Babe Ruth is the first player to hit 500 homers, Constitution of the Weimar Republic is adopted, among other things)
Births 1933 - Jerry Falwell, American preacher (d. 2007) YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME
1943 - Pervez Musharraf, Current President of Pakistan and former Chief of Army Staff of the Pakistan Army LOL
(Others of interest: Hulk Hogan, Philip Phillips [what a tragic name], Erwin Chargaff, Richie Ramone, Bubba Crosby and Melky Cabrera both)
Deaths 1919 - Andrew Carnegie, Scottish-born industrialist and philanthropist (b. 1835) Interesting...
(Even though it only asks for one, I felt I had to give this one special mention...) 480 BC - Leonidas, King of Sparta LOL for all you 300 fans.
(Others include: Wilfred the Hairy [HAHAHAHAHAHAHA], Jackson Pollack, a bunch of others I've never heard of...)
*** Also, August 11th is Valentine's Day in Taiwan, and Heroes Day in Zimbabwe.

I Am A: True Neutral Elf Sorcerer (2nd Level)
Ability Scores:
Strength-14
Dexterity-17
Constitution-13
Intelligence-16
Wisdom-11
Charisma-13
Alignment: True Neutral A true neutral character does what seems to be a good idea. He doesn't feel strongly one way or the other when it comes to good vs. evil or law vs. chaos. Most true neutral characters exhibit a lack of conviction or bias rather than a commitment to neutrality. Such a character thinks of good as better than evil after all, he would rather have good neighbors and rulers than evil ones. Still, he's not personally committed to upholding good in any abstract or universal way. Some true neutral characters, on the other hand, commit themselves philosophically to neutrality. They see good, evil, law, and chaos as prejudices and dangerous extremes. They advocate the middle way of neutrality as the best, most balanced road in the long run. True neutral is the best alignment you can be because it means you act naturally, without prejudice or compulsion. However, true neutral can be a dangerous alignment because it represents apathy, indifference, and a lack of conviction.
Race: Elves are known for their poetry, song, and magical arts, but when danger threatens they show great skill with weapons and strategy. Elves can live to be over 700 years old and, by human standards, are slow to make friends and enemies, and even slower to forget them. Elves are slim and stand 4.5 to 5.5 feet tall. They have no facial or body hair, prefer comfortable clothes, and possess unearthly grace. Many others races find them hauntingly beautiful.
Class: Sorcerers are arcane spellcasters who manipulate magic energy with imagination and talent rather than studious discipline. They have no books, no mentors, no theories just raw power that they direct at will. Sorcerers know fewer spells than wizards do and acquire them more slowly, but they can cast individual spells more often and have no need to prepare their incantations ahead of time. Also unlike wizards, sorcerers cannot specialize in a school of magic. Since sorcerers gain their powers without undergoing the years of rigorous study that wizards go through, they have more time to learn fighting skills and are proficient with simple weapons. Charisma is very important for sorcerers; the higher their value in this ability, the higher the spell level they can cast.

| Oh Senior Year... |
[21:53 Monday 10 September 2007] |
So I haven't gotten more than 5 hours straight of sleep on any given school night this year so far. I suppose it's my own fault for taking so many AP classes, BUT...I'm actually doing well in all of them. I got a 94 on my first real Politics quiz (which will pull my awful grade on the summer reading quiz up, haha), a 100 on Chinese quiz, 83 on Stats (one of the higher grades on the quiz), 90 on Bio, 100 on the first Econ test (!!!), and we haven't done much in English or Orchestra but I think I'm doing well in them.

| I hate thinking of LJ titles... |
[22:54 Wednesday 27 June 2007] |
Finals were not that bad. I managed to read 250 pages of my book in one day, which is a feat I've never accomplished before. And Chinese was easy, as expected (hey, it's only level II...although I feel like they are preparing me in Chinese a lot better than the German teachers did with German...I could hold my own in the conversation me and the teacher had for the speaking part!)
Also, SAT II scores came out on the 22nd, so I got them then: US History: 680 (I expected something like this) Math II: 780 (I wish it was an 800 :( ) German: 700 (Way lower than expected...)

| So excited...! |
[19:48 Sunday 17 June 2007] |
So another school year is over. It's time, again, for the quote of the year, which this year is from my Chemistry class.
[talking about signifcant figures and metric system] Sean O'Keefe: What's sex...[tillion]? Class: Uh...HAHAHA...how did you pass Health, Sean? Mr. Spinelli: Speaking of which, does anyone know the Latin word for "ant"? Kyle Christiansen: Uh...sex?
The class just about died after that.
In other news, finals!!!!! OMG, I'm so screwed for English, I still have 200 pages to read for Tuesday...
Kyle Christiansen: Uh...sex?
Danach ist die Klasse fast gestorben.
In anderen Nachrichten, Abschlussprüfungen!!!!!

If you comment, I'll check out your LJ profile. In particular, the interests section. I will then pick three "interests" in that, and ask you to explain them. You then post an LJ entry explaining those three interests, along with this explanation.
In response to Erin's picks: 1. badminton 2. canasta 3. david clement-davies
1. Me and Jerry Wu's extreme badminton games last year in gym :D I've played badminton for as long as I can remember. BIRDIE! 2. Awesomefun card game, played with two decks. It's a little difficult to pick up at first, but after a while you get used to it and it's really fun :D 3. Pretty awesome fantasy writer, discovered him in 8th grade. | Ah, school... |
[15:34 Thursday 31 May 2007] |
So, the college process has officially begun...we're writing college essays now! I have no idea what I'm gonna write about, but I'm probably gonna end up writing the essay for "Topic of your choice" -_-; Oh well, it's better than nothing at least :D
So yeah, SAT IIs on Saturday! Whoohoo for US History, Math II, and German! I think I'll do really well on Math II and German, and then OK on History. Such is life...
I also seem to be on a kick for finding materials on obscure languages...at the moment, I'm printing out a 538-page grammar of Georgian, a Caucasian language spoken in Georgia (the country which was part of the former Soviet Union, not the US state in the South :P) The script is really awesome... For now, I'll have to keep these fairly short if I want to do a bilingual journal >.>; --- So, jetzt hat der Universitätenabtragsprozess offiziel angefangen...wir schreiben jetzt Aufsätze für Universitäten!
Also, SAT IIs am Samstag!
| May SAT Scores! |
[14:48 Thursday 24 May 2007] |
So May SAT scores came out today, and I did both better than I thought and not as well as I thought :D
Critical Reading: 640 (87%) Math: 800 (99%) Writing: 750 (99%) Total: 2190
I did better than I thought in Writing (which was good), just as I expected in Math (which made me happy), and worse than I thought in Crit. Reading (...>.>) Seriously, I came out of the SAT all excited that I did REALLY well on Critical Reading, and then it turns out that I got a 640 -_-; These scores are basically what I'm sending to colleges, since I did better in both math and writing, and the exact same in reading.

| It's about fucking time |
[20:22 Tuesday 15 May 2007] |
I don't have to take chemistry ever again (hopefully). I realized how excited I was about this when I walked into my house and started jumping up and down excitedly while making my lunch. It is a good feeling to know that I'm done with chem for the rest of high school, and possibly college (we'll see).
So, 3 down, 1 to go...
We finished watching "Sneakers" in math today, which was fun, and then we started watching "Donald Duck in Math Magic Land" :D (I think we're not gonna finish it...) In APUSH, we're watching "Forrest Gump" (of which I missed 45 minutes today while I was taking chemistry).
English is annoying as ever. In the midst of Catcher in the Rye at the moment, which is possibly the most emo book I've ever read. Which is not a good thing. This book is a piece of shit, as are most books that are required reading for English (with a few exceptions: Great Gatsby, The Alchemist, etc, but they are far too few unfortunately *sob*).
My schedule is so nice now.
Mondays: 1st period English, 2nd period Chinese. 3rd/4th is double Chem lab, where we'll be doing fun labs like making ice cream and silvering bottles and whatnot. 5th is APUSH, where we'll have some parties everyday :D. 6th is Calc which is yet another party, and 7th is lunch. 8th is orchestra, where we won't be doing much.
Tuesday-Friday: See Monday, only without the double lab.
Silly APs...

| KAHSOVCIW! |
[23:43 Friday 11 May 2007] |
I can officially clear out anything in my room that pertains to Calculus or US History. I'm half done with my exams (due to a mix up by the AP coordinator, I did not actually get to take the German exam yesterday, but instead I'm taking it on May 24th at 8 am).
About APUSH: I loved it. So much better than WHAP. The multiple choice was fairly straight-forward and easy, and I managed to answer all of them (however, there were quite a few that I wasn't sure of), and the essay topics were actually not as bad as I had feared. I feel good about my essays, so hopefully that means I did well :D
This weekend I need to:
-Read approximately 100 pages of Catcher in the Rye, plus accompanying journal entries.
-Clean up the review packets/papers from Calc and APUSH. No need for them anymore.
-Go to the Rec center tomorrow to do some volunteer thingy (for what, I have no idea...)
-Study for the AP Chem exam (like, a lot)
-Study for a Chem quiz on Monday (should be fairly easy- basic nuclear chem, nothing too difficult)
-Do a chem practice AP exam (or 3...Spinelli gave us one, and there are 2 in my AP review book) -Practice speaking German for TEN MINUTES A DAY from now until May 23rd.
-If time permits do some stuff for Chinese that I missed on Wednesday and Friday (including a character sheet that was actually due Thursday that I didn't do) -If even more time permits, read my IRP book (Enchantment by Orson Scott Card)
-Practice both orchestra music (Tchaikovsky needs to die...oh wait, he's already dead...) and my piece for some recital I'm having sometime (Boccherini's Cello Concerto in Bb Major).
Other events in my life: -I got a letter today from the Chamber Music Central place, saying that I'm getting a full scholarship for their program this summer, meaning I save about $800! I'm getting the music apparently sometime in the next week. -I went to town with Rachel, Toich, Jill S, and Sofija after APUSH today, which was fun. We saw two jets circling around the park for a few minutes. -The AATG banquet was tonight -We started watching the movie "Sneakers" in math today, but I'm not entirely certain what it has to do with math (yet...). -The college mail continues to come. I have a stack 6.5 inches high of mail on my shelf.
No, my life during AP exams has not been hectic at all :D

But CALCULUS IS OVER, DESPITE HOW MUCH I LOVE IT!!!!!! It was a pretty hard exam, though. I managed to answer everything except for the last part of the last question of the free-response, which is good.
Afterwards, I managed to see Rachel and Nicole, and have no idea where Rachel went...A whole gang of us Calc kids went up to talk to Mrs. Falk after the exam, which was fun, and then I went home...
Und jetzt, Sprechen auf deutsch zu üben...

So yeah, last night was Junior Prom...
My and McKenzie's little pre-prom excursion was to Allison's house, where we took pictures and stuff...
( Camera Orgy? )
So then, after all that, we went to Bailey's Backyard for dinner. We (re: I) was laughing really loudly and the older women were looking at us and grinning dumbly. Dinner was fun though, we kept making fun of McKenzie and completely misconstruing anything that she said (i.e. "Don't make me feel awkward with my mouth full...because then I can't rebuke you") purposely.
And then we left, and picked up Amrita at her house, and then drove to the school, where we were "fashionably late" (i.e. we got there at, like, 8:40...), and then much fun was had...yeah. Everyone started leaving, like, halfway through it, and by the time it was 11, there were probably 20 people still there.
Then afterwards, McKenzie drove me, Nicole, and Adam to her house where we just sat around and talked for a while, and then I went home at, like, 12:15...(yeah pretty early, so what :P)
So that was the extent of Junior Prom for me, whoohoo...
